Why are the best dunkers not in the dunk contest?nba basketball

They are usually hurt or don't want to get hurt

Why are the best dunkers not in the dunk contest?college basketball ,nba teams

because NBA has a rule that the participants of the dunk contest has to be in their rookie, second season or 3rd year in the league..

here's my possible dunk participants this season :

gerald green - reigning champ, 3rd season

kevin durant - rookie

james white - rookie

josh mcroberts - rookie
Kobe, vince and those players have been in the dunk contest some point in their career, and right now they are super stars, and dunk contest has been about young players right now.

As of James, he's a great dunker but lacks creativity, all of his high flying dunks basically looked the same.

I agree with you, Howard and igudola got cheated, they should've been the champions of the last 2 contests, the most meomorable dunk was Howard putting the sticker high up on the glass while dunking.
Its because their probably offered the chance to be a part of it and just turn down the offer due to them either not wanting to risk injury, thinking its a waste of their time, or just simply arent interested!
First to stevenashty21, James White is a second year player. And T-mac was in the 2000 slam dunk contest. VC won the 2000 dunk contest. Kobe won the 1997 dunk contest. LeBron wanted everyone to know him not as a dunker, but an actual player. Plus, he keeps saying that there are no original dunks out there anymore (he needs to come and talk to me). Josh Smith won the 2005 contest. J-Rich won the 2002, 2003, and should've won 2004 contest. And Dwight Howard wasn't explosive enough.
Because they don't want to risk anything or as LeBron James said they don't want to!!!
t-mac, vince, kobe, josh smith,j-rich, and dwight howard have already been in a dunk contest

andre wasnt cheated, to be 5'7" nd jump 10' is incredible in any circumstance

andre had great dunks but nate had almost great dunks nd he has to put more effort in the dunk because he is short

i know how he feels im short too

dwight howard? wtf r u smokin?? yea that sticker dunk was kool and funny but not spectacular gerald green had that s*** in the bag from the beginning

and who the hell is derek anderson?? lol
idk, my bff jill
I have the same sentiment, it seemed that Iguodala was cheated. It was suppose to be a dunk contest but it turned into the Spud-Webb-tribute-let-the-closest-in-hei...

It's a great move by the NBA to have past dunk champs like Dr. J, Nique, MJ, VC, Kobe judge it last time. I think only this select few are the best judges in the all-star dunk contest..
there must be a limit for players due to the performances of the dunk contests
they dont want to risk the chance of injuring themselves and missing the rest of the season.
Because They dont want to get hurt!!!!!!!!!!!
because the dunk contest isnt what it use to be.the top players would rather relax than have to do dunk after dunk.Kobe was in the dunk contest once so he did participate.Besides what if Lebron or vince carter hurt themselves performing a dunk? I'm sure their teams would'nt be to happy about it.
Becasue its not that hype like it was years ago.
